Heritage

Castle Rushen from the harbour - June 2000Castletown has been one of the main settlements in the Isle of Man, and for many years was the Island's Capital and home of its Parliament.

Castletown's historic past is all around which ever way you turn - centred on the Castle and in every street and building in the Castle's shadow.

Manx National Heritage are the custodians of Castle Rushen, the Nautical Museum and the Old Grammar School (and are currently restoring the original House of Keys in Parliament Square).

There are separate pages for these fascinating buildings - visit them all here:

The Old House of Keys
Castle Rushen
Nautical Museum - home of the Peggy
Old Grammar School

Castletown Heritage - are an organisation centred on the Town, which encourages and supports the preservation, restoration and development of the Heritage of Castletown.

It is well worth taking a walk around the town, to enjoy the atmosphere of the historic harbour, or admire some of the fine old houses throughout the town centre.

Walking Tour

We have a guided tour of the Town, prepared by Castletown Heritage, which will introduce you to some of the Town's interesting sights.

There is also a Photographic tour, to show you some of the delightful sights around the Town.
