Castletown Bowling Club
The Crofts, Castletown Isle of Man
The present club was started in 1950. Some of the original founders are members to this day, and have given many years of service to the Club It was originally an all men’s Club but in 1975 a Ladies section was brought into being, with the assistance of the male members at this time. Then in 1992 a proposal was put forward to unite the two sections and since that date we have run a very successful joint Club with all members pulling together to make it so.
At present we have three men’s teams playing in the open age evening league and an over 60s team playing in the men’s over 60s afternoon league. Our ladies team plays in the open age women’s league. Throughout the summer months we have a programme of club competitions which are open to all club members. Junior members are encouraged to play at the club and 2004 saw an influx of a significant number of youngsters joining the club and displaying admirable enthusiasm! Senior members of the club are always ready. to help newcomers – whatever their age, and more formal coaching may be available through the IOMCCGBA. If you would like to try the game, please do not hesitate to contact one of our committee members – we can lend you the equipment as long as you have the flat shoes. A good way to start is to come along to the green and meet us.
